The Mahdi Army Surrenders

I absolutely can't wait to see how the dinosaur media tries to spin this one.

Moqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army in its Sadr City stronghold have agreed to Iraqi PM Maliki's terms. They're going to disarm and allow government forces to go anywhere they wanted in Sadr City and to arrest anyone found with heavy weapons.

What brought things to a final head was the Maliki government's evacuation of portions of the population of Sadr City in preparation for a major assault...and in view of how many of the jihadis have been killed while Moqtada al-Sadr is 'leading them' from the safety of Iran, they packed it in.

Basra,of course, was cleared a while ago and Iraqi forces control the city now instead of the Shiite militias.

Knowing the mentality in the region the way I do,I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a correlation between th edefeat of an Iranian proxy in Iraq, with the ramping up of Hezboallah's assault on the Siniora government in Lebanon.

In this part of the world, the perception of strength is everything.

All in all, a worthy victory.

Brilliant observation, linking the uprising in Lebanon to the defeat in Iraq. I totally agree with that connection. It's all about the perception of strength and saving face.
